WA’s Travel Hotspots and their Most Noteworthy Events

Following the COVID-19 travel restrictions lifting in WA (cue the bubbles!) - we’re sure that like us, you’ve been scrambling to organise a weekend away filled with events that make the last two months in isolation #worthit. Read on for our list of WA’s top travel hotspots and their most extraordinary events to mark in your calendar once they're allowed to return!

Esperance

Kangaroos on the beach? Check. Sand so fine it squeaks? Got it. Stunning snorkelling spots? Hell to the yes! Don’t let the eight-hour drive from Perth deter you from serene Esperance, we promise it’s worth it. Take a scenic flight over the famous pink Lake Hillier and spend your days four-wheel driving amongst the lazy wildlife, who don’t mind posing for your #justanotherdayinWA snaps.

  • Events we love: Esperance Music Festival & Trek Esperance.

Broome

Chase the summer year-round and holiday at WA’s own pearling town – Broome. You’ll need to book a flight or get very close and comfortable with your travel buddies for at least 24 hours if you’re trekking it from Perth. Featuring blazing red dirt, a stairway to the moon and world-famous crystal-clear waters where your camel can dips its toes on your sunset ride, Broome is a must to add to the bucket list.

  • Events we love: Shinju Matsuri Pearl Festival & Pinctada Cable Beach Polo.

Albany

If you’re looking for a small coastal town, look no further than picture perfect Albany. Albany lies less than a five hour drive from the Perth CBD, however we recommend taking the long way round, snaking through Myalup, Bridgetown and Denmark. The quaint sea-side town has plenty to do including an expansive wind farm, whale watching, a Whale Museum and the former HMAS Perth dive wreck.

  • Events we love: Annual Tulip Festival & Albany Classic Motor Show.

Swan Valley

Wine and cheese? Yes please! Head to the Swan Valley, which is only a half hour drive from the city, to pursue your inner foodie. Frolic amongst the abundant vineyards and indulge in some of the freshest produce our state has to offer, or book a wine tour with your pals and experience the ultimate gourmet road trip – with your own personal deso driver.

  • Events we love: Gourmet Escape & Throwing of the Grapes.

Margaret River

Grab your surfboard and drive “douth” - the most polarising term currently debated by WA locals - to one of WA’s most famous wine region surf towns – Margaret River. Gorgeous in summer and even more breathtaking in winter, you can’t go past this iconic holiday spot. A three hour trip from Perth, grab a scoop at Simmo’s Ice Creamery, taste world class wines, olive oils, chocolate and more. Shop yourself into a bohemian dream at the local homeware and fashion boutiques.

  • Events we love: Margaret River PRO & The Readers and Writers Festival.
