Why Events ARE an Essential Service

‘Essential service’ is one of the many phrases that’s followed us out of 2020 and into the new year - one step behind the iconic ‘unprecedented times’.

While in-person events certainly don’t fall into the category of services that keep the world turning, we did notice ourselves getting increasingly restless in lockdown (2020 AND 2021) - missing the smiles, the hugs, and the essence of another person you can only soak up when you’re face to face (sorry not sorry, Zoom breakout rooms).

It’s only human to want to make memories and be around others. To smell them, touch them, read body language, and make small talk which eventually turns into big talk. And while we’ve always placed value on these things, it was when they were stripped from us that we truly realised how powerful a simple handshake is. Maybe it’s time we rethink this term ‘essential’?

Below are FOUR REASONS why we know in-person events aren’t going anywhere;

HUMAN INTERACTION

The #1 draw card to in-person events is the face-to-face connection with others. Sharing endless stories, smiles and laughter with friends, strangers and strangers who are about to become friends just isn’t something we’re ready to say goodbye to. After all, BTC hosts Mel and Krystal became besties while hovering over an event’s grazing table…

THE ULTIMATE SENSORY EXPERIENCE

Events are a party for your senses – all six of them. The mood lighting, the live entertainment, the gourmet canapes – and all the other things that can’t be replicated by a two-hour livestream (unless you enjoy a blue-light-induced-headache). Especially after the year we’ve had, people are itching at the bits to attend events – so 2021 is the perfect opportunity to create experiences that were worth the wait.

INVALUABLE MARKETING TOOL

In-person events are the modern-day marketing tool of your dreams. They share your brand story, showcase your product/service and build connection and trust with your audience – and that’s just on event night. Plus, they’re SO much more fun than an Instagram campaign. Your audience will leave feeling an emotional connection to your brand, and your future audience will feel FOMO they weren’t there.

SOCIALISE AND NETWORK

Ok fine, we do admit there are some benefits to virtual events (covid casual attire, anyone?). But boy oh boy loungewear does not compete to dressing up for a cocktail event. In-person events motivate us to step out of our comfort zone, make ourselves look glam and take every opportunity to spread good vibes.
