City of Perth; Seven Colours, One Message

Take your mind back to the height of Australia’s COVID-19 lockdown – remember the rainbows and teddy bears that lined our driveways like it was the peak of pride? The humble rainbow, a seven-colour natural wonder, quickly became the national symbol of hope - a guiding light for communities in pain.

Fast forward to September and that symbol of hope has blasted onto the streets and walkways of Perth’s CBD for the City of Perth’s Spring Campaign, #playinfullcolour. It reminds us of what we’ve been through, and symbolises the better times to come.

Selected by the City of Perth along with some other incredible Perth creatives, team Known Associates searched high and low for hidden gems within the CBD, visualising ways to stop commuters in their tracks, stunning them with a colour explosion in places they would never expect.

Hidden in plain sight, we transformed the Information Booth in Forrest Chase from a white abstract shape to a rainbow structure that draws the eye from a mile away. The infectious colour leaps to surrounding seating, in ten unique patterns to suit anyone’s style.

Moving to Hay Street, iconic statue, the hand-standing Percy Button, now stands in a splash of rainbow paint with 40m of handprints in front of him – because we all know statues come to life when we’re not looking…

Lastly, the unassuming staircase that shoulders The Globe stands even taller now it’s been brushed by a multi-patterned rainbow.

2020 has been hard for all of us, but isn’t it incredible that something as simple as colour is enough to raise our spirits? We’ve had literally hundreds of people saying how much they love the Perth activation. Make sure you hurry down to the CBD, the Spring activation will end with October.
