Perth Surf Park Ground Breaking
Client | Adventuur
Location | Surfing WA, Trigg Beach & Perth Surf Park Site, Jandakot
Perth Surf Park is officially underway.
Delivered in partnership with Aventuur, the project will bring a world-class surf destination to Western Australia, set to open in 2027.
To mark the beginning, we delivered a multi-part event that brought together community, culture and construction, from sunrise on the coast to breaking ground inland.
Known Associates is proud to be part of the story, designing and managing the inaugural events for this jewel for the WA surfing community. Perth Surf Park opens in late 2027. It’s set to become a major sporting, tourism, leisure and entertainment destination in Western Australia.
ON SAND | SURFING WA, TRIGG BEACH
Community Connection: 5.30am, Trigg Beach, and over 30 groms hit the surf alongside pro surfer Adrian ‘Ace’ Buchan, to celebrate the beginning of Perth Surf Park construction.
Back on shore, Known Associates facilitated talks, free breaky and hot coffee to spread the word on Perth Surf Park opening in late 2027. It’s set to become a major sporting, tourism, leisure and entertainment destination in Western Australia.
A shared community art piece spilled onto the ‘The First Waves’ surfboard, telling a story of Country and the WA surfing community.
A whole lot of excited energy from the local surf community could be felt as the moon set and the sun rose over our team and the event space!
ON SITE | PERTH SURF PARK SITE, JANDAKOT
Perth Surf Park Groundbreaking marked the start of construction – yes people, it’sahappening! Known Associates rolled out the VIP events.
Remember playing in the sandpit as a kid? Same idea, slightly bigger scale. We designed an amphitheatre for the VIP media event from limestone, sand, heritage surfboards and native WA flora to create a stage that said sand, surf, and big, sexy construction, complete with a backdrop of heavy machinery.
Noongar Elders Neville Collard and Farley Garlett, led a powerful and symbolic Welcome to Country as water from Derbarl Yerrigan was returned to the earth, symbolising the connection between land, sea and ancestors.
Deputy Premier Hon. Rita Saffioti MLA, Aventuur Chair Andrew Ross and VIP guests shared the excitement of this project finally coming to life and what it will bring to WA surfing communities.
Thanks to Urban Resources for helping us bring the vision to life on such a large, raw scale.
THE FIRST WAVE | FIRST NATIONS COMMUNITY ART PIECE
A key part of the morning was the creation of a collaborative surfboard artwork, The First Wave, led by Known Associates’ in-house Indigenous artist Shannon Walding. What began as a shared moment quickly became a story of connection between land, water and the Western Australian surfing community.
The artwork reflects the natural environment of Western Australia. Blues represent the many tones of the ocean, from deep offshore waters to the lighter turquoise along the coastline, symbolising the movement of waves and marine life. Positioned at the top of the piece, water reflects its importance. Without it, surfing would not exist.
Greens represent the land on which the surf park will stand, drawn in soft, rolling forms to mirror the natural hills, rocky ground and native flora of WA. Beneath it all, red elements reference the rich red dirt of the north, featuring meeting circles and campfire symbols that represent the WA surfing community.
These circles, connected by pathways, reflect the journeys surfers have taken across the state and the shared history that ties them together. They also acknowledge those from northern WA who may be far from the surf park but remain an essential part of the broader surfing community.
Together, the artwork tells a story of connection to place, to people and to the shared love of surf that brings it all together.
